In 2009, photographer Jessamyn Lovell misplaced her wallet while discussing her upcoming show in San Francisco. She would then become one of the 16 million Americans that had their identity stolen that year and while she did go through the same bureaucracy and phone calls to cancel credit cards, she did something more. In 2014, she channeled her frustrations and turned this incident into a photography piece.
By hiring a private investigator, Lovell tracked down the woman who stole her identity, Erin Colleen Hart. The result? In exchange for stealing Lovell’s identity, Lovell took multiple photos of Hart to expose her identity.
Lovell eventually got justice when Hart was sentence for her crimes but Lovell is enjoying the spotlight of her gallery of various letters from vendors demanding payment, surveillance photos, and mug shots. For more details on this story, click here.
