For years, criminals have been able to obtain and use information taken from credit cards. Millions have been affected by this trouble. From this problem, the EMV chip has been created. Within the year, the majority if not all credit cards will rely on a chip rather than a magnetic strip. So now I can shop without the worry of fraud, right?
Well, just because EMV prevents counterfeit fraud, it doesn’t mean that your card is fully safe. The technology still doesn’t prevent card-not-present transactions, meaning that online purchases and the like are still prey for hackers. Needless to say, EMV might be a godsend for the physical realm, but there needs to be more work as the future shows most retailers, customers, and businesses leaning more on online sales.
