Privacy has become scarce and valued in today’s modern age. It is nearly impossible to shop, travel, and work in the modern world without revealing personal information. It is foolish to think that the answer to the privacy problem is to eliminate social media. Or is it?
Citizens within the European Union have been advised to shut down their Facebook accounts if they want to keep their private information away from U.S. security services. This issue stems of EU’s Data Protection Directive which outlaws the transfer of citizens’ personal data to countries outside the EU while Facebook’s operations are nested in the United States. Much has to be considered for certain universal global security in order to keep everyone in the world safe, but still connected.
