There are a number of phishing emails that clutter your inbox every day. Many of you might wonder why they keep bothering shooting over email after email. Well, that’s because phishing apparently still works! Education is key to putting an end to phishing.
Here’s what you should do whenever an email seems fishy… err, “phishy.†First, if the email claims to be a bank or company you do business with and has questions regarding your account, do some research. Without clicking on any links or sending any email reply back, go to the account in question on another browser to see if what the email claims is true. If not, it’s a scam. Other indicators of spam email would be having a conflicting email address (example, Bank of America wouldn’t originate from an AOL account), poor grammar in the text, and if it were an emergency situation, you’d likely get a physical letter in the mail and/or a phone call along with the email.
