While the news is full of stories about big business data breaches or individual identity thefts, the most hurt victim of cybercrime is the area where most healing happens. According to a NewDiligence report, the healthcare system is hit by the most malicious hackers and has the highest legal cost of all industries that are affected by cybercrime.
Overall, $62.3 million was paid by cyber insurance providers to cover the claims, investigations, and legal advice regarding the claims. All of that money came from 117 claims, which had varying amounts. Hacker’s Sentence Reduced by 440 Years
Fidel Salinas, a young Texas hacker, consented to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of computer fraud and will pay $10,000 in restitution. And he’ll pay happily. Just months ago, the original charges were for 44 felony counts of computer fraud, each carrying a 10-year maximum sentence, which would have totaled 440 years of jail time.
