According to Trend Micro Research, Operation Pawn Storm is using a crafted iOS app to steal information from mobile device text messages, contact lists, pictures, geo-location information, and record voice conversations. The application was found by Trend Micro when investigating Operation Pawn Storm and says that the spyware is installed on systems already compromised by the attackers. President Barack Obama and his administration are pushing for new legislation to protect the privacy of students using the internet. The Student Data Privacy Act is expected to be introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives at the end of this month. Samsung admitted that the voice recognition technology on their smart TVs used to enable voice commands have been eavesdropping on your conversations. Their privacy policy states “if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be captures and transmitted to a third party.” While Samsung claims that data encryption has been in place, the best protection is to turn the voice recognition feature off. Zero day exploits of Adobe’s Flash Player have affected over 1,800 domains. The latest campaigned peaked last month with almost 1,400 infections within Jan. 28^th and Jan. 29^th. A number of states including Minnesota and Utah had detected fraudulent activity from taxes submitted through TurboTax. This concern grew to the point that TurboTax temporarily suspended all state filings and checked their systems. TurboTax has added additional security and has resumed taking in state filings.
