IRS Adds Identity Protection Pin to Fend Off Fraud
According to the IRS, taxpayers who filed federal returns last year from Georgia, Florida, or D.C. are eligible for an Identity Protection Pin that will help protect them from tax-related identity theft. This is part of an IRS effort to stop all identity theft through taxes, but is currently being tested in those areas first since all three areas report the highest amount of tax-related identity theft. Hacker Claims FBI Charged Him After Refusing to Spy
Fidel Salinas, a hacker with ties to the hacktivist group Anonymous, was charged with 44 felony charges that were later dismissed. In the aftermath, Salinas revealed that he believes the charges were brought up as a scare tactic after refusing to work with the FBI. Salinas has no evidence that such a thing took place and the FBI has flatly denied his accusation.
