The hacking group known as “Lizard Squad†has claimed responsibility for the recent breach of the Chinese computer and smartphone firm Lenovo. Lenovo’s website had its domain name system breached that redirected visitors to another web address and had internal company emails intercepted. This is the second security issue within the month after the U.S. government warned consumers to remove the “Superfish†software that came pre-installed in Lenovo laptops. 2014: Windows More Secure Than Linux or Mac OS X
For a long time, Apple’s operation system was considered the most secure of all the commercially offered, but in 2014 that was not the case. According to network and security solutions provider GFI, the top three most vulnerable operating systems last year were Apple’s Mac OS X, Apple iOS, and the Linux kernel. U.S. Offers $3 Million Bounty for Hacker
The U.S. State Department and the FBI announced last week that they were offering $3 million to whoever has any information leading to the arrest of Russian hacker Evgeniy Bogachev. Bogachev is wanted for running the computer attack network “GameOver Zeus†which allegedly stole more than $100 million from online bank accounts. Anthem Breach Affects 18.8 Million Non-Customers
Last month’s breach of nationwide health insurer Anthem had effected roughly 80 million people, nearly ¼ which were not Anthem customers. Anthem disclosed late last week that between 8 to 18.8 million Blue Cross Blue Shield customer records may have been stored in Anthem’s breached data base.
